2020 IDAL Board Candidates

Dana Burke IDAL - 2020 Candidacy Statement

My name is Dana Burke and I am running for a position on the IDAL board.  My background in the arts began with a successful 30-year career in the Cosmetology industry where I used my knowledge and training in not only the creative aspects of coloring and cutting Hair but also in management, education, and training.

I have extensive knowledge in color theory, which applies to all aspects of artistry, I feel this makes me a good candidate for the Decorating artisan’s industry.  I have been working with my husband Chris Burke for the last 3 years in all areas of the business.  My specialty being in Color consultations and communication with our clients.  Even learning many plaster, and specialty finish techniques.  I am currently taking a Marbling Class with Mike McNeil.

I also have 10 years of experience in classroom education, management, and event planning working with Paul Mitchell ranging from staff trainings to full scale convention logistics, ranging from industry shows, fashion shows, and class room set up, which I think will be valuable to IDAL.

Being self-employed I have the time and flexibility to be of benefit to the organization.  I am proficient with Excel and am an excellent typist and am self-motivated and always willing to take on even the smallest task.

Thank You for your consideration.

Deb Johnson - IDAL 2020 Candidacy Statement

Do you remember the feeling you had when you anticipated an upcoming class and you can hardly wait to learn something new in decorative painting? That’s the excitement I’d like to bring to IDAL. I’ve taken a lot of classes across the United States for more than 10 years, learning from the best in the field and keeping up with the latest trends.

I have worked in retail and the corporate world, always working my way up to management. I have built a successful decorative painting business, known as Paint Inspirations with a reputation of being on the cutting edge.

Feeling it’s time to give back, I am running for a position on the IDAL board.

I have served previously as a board member for the Oklahoma City Runners Club, for several years as well as on other local committees.
I’m a team player and have hopes of advancing the decorative arts field.
I look forward to exchanging ideas with fellow artists to help strengthen IDAL.
I would appreciate your vote.

Jodi Heinz IDAL - 2020 Candidacy Statement

Hi. I’m Jodi Heinz and am honored to be considered by you to be an IDAL board member. I have been a member since IDAL’s inception, and previously SALI.

Because of my background, I feel I can bring much to the board and future of IDAL.

I have a BFA from Syracuse University, with a concentration in painting. My work eventually came off the canvas and onto the walls and furniture around me, but I didn’t yet see how this could sustain me in a career. I worked as an interior design assistant and then as a textile artist. After I had my first child, I started painting murals on walls. I took out a series of ads back in the early 1990’s and got so much work that I formed an LLC, and have had a flourishing decorative design career ever since. Here is a link to my website where you can learn more. www.JodiHeinz.com. Even though I have taken lots of classes in various cities in both the decorative and fine arts fields, last year was the first convention I attended. I am so hooked. You are my people.

I have been on numerous committees in my life to make the world a better place. I have chaired my town’s shade tree commission and a roving homeless shelter program in spiritual centers, was a girl scout leader and literacy volunteer. In addition, I raised two children, one of which is also a muralist.

Thank you for your consideration.

Donna Mock IDAL - 2020 Candidacy Statement

I have been so blessed to be part of the IDAL Board for the last year.  It has been such an amazing experience and such an amazing group of artists.  Talented, fun, devoted and caring about every member and the future of IDAL.  A lot of hard work has gone into the past year to make sure everyone has an amazing convention and working to make sure IDAL is well represented and thriving and growing.  I would love to continue on as a board member and continue all the work of this past year.  I hope all of you will take a few minutes to vote and attend the 2019 convention in Charlotte.  There is an amazing group of teachers, vendors and sponsors to look forward to.
