1 Day Class
Sunday, October 22, 8 a.m. - 12 p.m., 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.

As a decorative artist you want to be able to show and promote your work, but it's not very portable. So the answer is high quality photographs that will represent you and your work in a way that will give potential clients a great representation of what you can do and in a way that says you are a true professional.

In other words, you probably don’t want blurry cell phone photos that have a bright spot in the middle caused by the on-camera flash. In our seminar we will discuss the techniques that anyone can learn and employ, no matter what your photography skill level may be. We will discuss the merits and uses of all types of cameras from cell phones to high end DLSRs. Lighting essentials will be covered and we will demonstrate how to use various equipment from natural existing light, strobes, constant lights and perhaps even flashlights. Color balance will covered as well. In our second session we will take it to a deeper level by discussing how to edit in Photoshop to get the most out of your images. We will cover the basics and demonstrate some advanced techniques. You will learn how to create web and print versions of your images and how to layout brochures and other print materials in Photoshop. A basic understanding of Photoshop will be helpful. Classic Graining Techniques
    Taught by John & Greg
    1 Day Class
    Friday, October 20,  8 a.m. - 12 p.m.,
    1 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Join profaux.com in the heart of the furniture design industry! The big trend in 2017 will be making more room for natural elements. Painted furniture is stepping aside for natural wood finishes, dark or light. Natural wood is one of the easiest ways to add both warmth and texture to a room. Wood finishes help you accomplish a look that’s always comfortable and inviting. Whether imitating reclaimed oak or open mahogany shelves, wood finishes pair nicely with metal chairs, florals, plaster walls and pastel hues.

Trendworthy wall, woodwork and furniture appropriate woodgrain finishes will be taught in this intensive hands-on workshop led by John and Greg of profaux.com. Learn centuries old mixed media techniques using artist grade pigments and custom made glazes.  This class exists to train individuals in the art of graining. Graining waxes and wanes with current trends but never goes completely out of style. Exercising faux bois is eco-friendly especially with respect to endangered wood species. Graining helps separate painters from the pack. A good portfolio of graining can open many doors (no pun intended). Students will learn how to use specialty tools, how to custom mix glazes and subtle differences between various woods including color, grain, texture and figure. Pricing will also be discussed.

Students will leave with a better understanding of proper surface preparation, selecting better basecoat colors, tempering glazes to suit dry times, demystifying woods they wish to imitate, selective toning using artist pigments, use and care for specialty graining tools,  pricing their specialty work.

ProFaux workshops are hands-on, maximum of 20. All materials are provided including step-by-step workshop manual, primed and base coated 14”x20” polystyrene sample boards, use of specialty graining tools, artist pigments, buckets, sponges, paper towels, etc. All levels are encouraged.

Students will learn and have the confidence to reproduce walnut burl, cherry, Birdseye maple and plain cut mahogany. These finishes will unlock the mysteries to many other woods including pine, alder, oak and ziricote. Students gather close to see short demos then return to their tables to practice particular woodgrain techniques. ProFaux techniques are designed specifically to maximize dry times and eliminate wasted trips.

Students receive a no-gimmick manufactures’ product vouchers totaling over $100. This affordable workshop will make professionals more money when graining because our methods can be applied to any paintable surface, not just flatwork! As always, ProFaux offers a money back guarantee* if not satisfied. *Students that are not satisfied halfway through the program may leave without class materials and receive a full refund for the class.
